About Our Programs

About Our Programs

Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

IPM is an environmentally sensitive approach to controlling pests in the landscape which focuses on prevention. With a thorough inspection and identification of specific issues before strategically choosing the appropriate treatment for your unique outdoor space, Griffin Organics works with our clients to limit the use of pesticides and herbicides.

We recommend starting with a complete lawn analysis through soil testing. The soil test will tell us your soil pH, organic matter, nutrient contents, and soluble salts. Once the soil test results are returned, we can adjust our program to meet your lawn’s specific needs.

Eco-Turf Program

Eco-Turf Program

Our Eco-Turf Program combines the benefit of organic soil principles with the careful, selective use of effective, standard lawn pesticides. All of our lawn fertilizers have the maximum amount of organically derived natural nutrients possible with slow-release coatings to eliminate excess nutrient runoff into the environment and to enhance soil biotics. We start the program with two spring fertilization, including pre-emergent & post-emergent herbicides, to reduce competition with the desirable, perennial turf grass, giving you a greener, healthier lawn to enjoy.

As we head into the warmer months of early summer, we include continued feedings with micronutrients essential to root function and health, while continuing selective weed suppression. We also include a systemic insecticide. This insecticide provides grub control, and stops grubs feeding on the turf grassroots. We also offer a suppressive surface insecticide to reduce populations of other turf-damaging insects such as chinch bugs.

Through the late summer and into fall, our trained technicians continue to provide balanced feeding, broadleaf, and grassy weed control, as well as inspection for turf-damaging insects and disease. With seasonal care and fall fertilization, we can ensure that your lawn is able to withstand harsh winter weather, emerging in spring with a healthy root system, ready to go!

Additional Eco-Turf Program Services

Soil Test: To determine soil pH, organic matter, nutrient contents, and soluble salts.
Spring or Fall pH Adjustment: Most turfgrasses grow best in soil with a pH level between 6.1 and 6.9 (slightly acid). Soils with a pH level below this range will benefit from the addition of lime. If the pH level is above this range, aluminum sulfate may need to be added.
Micronutrients: To further enhance nutrient levels in the soil.
Aeration: To open up pathways for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone while decreasing thatch accumulation.

Fully-Organic Lawn Care Program

This program focuses solely on building organic content and improving microbial activity in the soil. Griffin Organics does so by combining organic fertilizer with compost tea sprays and using it to treat your lawn.

We also introduce endophyte-enhanced grass seed to your turf immediately after core aerating to further protect your lawn. The idea is to cultivate healthy, biologically active soil to promote thicker, healthier turf. The stronger the turf, the better its ability to control weeds while standing up to insects pests and diseases.

Soil Testing

A complete lawn analysis through soil testing is required with our Fully-Organic Program. Once the soil test results are returned, we can adjust our program to meet your lawn’s unique needs. This program includes the following steps and applications monthly:

Soil Test: To determine soil pH, organic matter, nutrient contents, and soluble salts.
April: Organic fertilizer/Corn gluten to promote biological activity in the soil, providing turf with necessary nutrients, and inhibit weeds.
May: Compost tea to introduce beneficial biology and nitrogen into the soil, and to help turf stand up to insects and disease.
June: Organic fertilizer/corn gluten “plus” to promote biological activity in the soil, providing turf with necessary nutrients, and inhibit weeds.
July: Compost tea with soy to introduce beneficial biology and nitrogen into the soil, and to help turf stand up to insects and disease.
August: Aeration with seed to open up pathways for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone, decrease thatch accumulation, and thicken up any thin spots in the lawn.
September: Organic fertilizer to promote biological activity in the soil and providing turf with necessary nutrients.
October: Compost tea with soy to introduce beneficial biology and nitrogen into the soil, and to help turf stand up to insects and disease.
Spring/Fall pH Adjustment: Most turfgrasses grow best in soil with a pH level between 6.1 and 6.9 (slightly acid). Soils with a pH level below this range will benefit from the addition of lime. If the pH level is above this range, aluminum sulfate may need to be added.
